Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 149/7 in their allotted 20 overs against Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 final. The match, being held at a packed stadium, saw a spirited batting display from Harmanpreet Kaur, who led from the front with a commanding knock of 66 runs off 44 balls.
Mumbai’s Innings Overview
After being asked to bat first, Mumbai had a shaky start, losing Hayley Matthews early for just 3 runs off 10 balls in the third over, bowled by Marizanne Kapp. Yastika Bhatia followed soon after, managing only 8 runs from 14 balls before being caught by Jemimah Rodrigues off Kapp’s bowling.
Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings with a composed 30 off 28 balls, hitting four boundaries, but fell to Nallapureddy Charani in the 15th over. The standout performance came from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who played a captain’s knock of 66 runs, smashing nine fours and two sixes at an impressive strike rate of 150.00.
However, Mumbai suffered a mini-collapse in the latter part of the innings. Amelia Kerr (2), Sajeevan Sajana (0), and Keerthana Gunalan (10) departed quickly, slowing down the scoring rate. A late cameo from Amanjot Kaur (14 off 7) and Saika Ishaque (8 off 5) helped Mumbai reach 149/7 in 20 overs.
Bowling Performance by Delhi Capitals
For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers, delivering a miserly spell of 4-0-11-2. Jess Jonassen also struck twice, dismissing Kerr and Sajana in quick succession. Nallapureddy Charani proved expensive, conceding 43 runs in her four overs but picked up two crucial wickets, including the dangerous Sciver-Brunt. Annabel Sutherland chipped in with one wicket for 29 runs in her four overs.
Delhi Capitals now face the task of chasing down 150 runs to lift the WPL 2025 trophy. With a strong batting lineup, including Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning, and Jemimah Rodrigues, Delhi will look to take control early in their innings. Mumbai, on the other hand, will rely on their experienced bowling attack, led by Shabnim Ismail and Saika Ishaque, to defend the total and secure the title.
