The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has intensified its efforts to ensure compliance with product certification norms by conducting search and seizure operations at multiple warehouse locations of leading e-commerce platforms, including Amazon and Flipkart. These raids, carried out on March 7, 2025, targeted warehouses in cities such as Lucknow, Gurugram, and Delhi, aiming to curb the distribution of non-compliant products through e-commerce channels.
In Lucknow, BIS officials raided an Amazon warehouse and seized 215 toys and 24 hand blenders, all lacking the mandatory BIS certification. Similarly, at a Flipkart warehouse in Gurugram, authorities confiscated 534 stainless steel bottles, 134 toys, and 41 speakers that were not certified.
The BIS has initiated legal action under the BIS Act, 2016, against the defaulting entities. This move underscores the agency’s commitment to enforcing quality and safety standards for products sold in India, thereby protecting consumers from potential hazards associated with uncertified products.
These actions are part of a broader crackdown on the sale of non-compliant products through e-commerce platforms. The BIS has been actively monitoring and taking action against entities violating certification norms to ensure that products available to consumers meet the required safety and quality standards.
