NHAI’s Rajmarg Yatra App to Soon Show Lowest Toll Routes; FASTag Annual Pass Also Launched for 200 Free Trips

NHAI’s Rajmarg Yatra App: In a major relief for frequent highway travelers, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to enhance its official mobile app—Rajmarg Yatra—with a new and highly practical feature. Soon, users will be able to identify the cheapest toll route between any two destinations across India, helping them make better and more cost-efficient travel decisions.

This upgrade, aimed at reducing travel stress and improving transparency, was confirmed by a senior NHAI official as per a report by PTI. The toll indicator feature will be integrated into the Rajmarg Yatra app, which was originally launched in 2023 to offer real-time information on facilities like fuel stations, emergency services, rest areas, and toll plazas along India’s vast network of national highways.

What Will the New Feature Do?

The app’s upcoming feature will allow users to compare toll charges on various routes between two cities and highlight the one with the lowest toll cost. According to Amrit Singh, Chief Product Officer at the Efficient Transportation System of the Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL), this move is aimed at giving commuters more control and choice over their travel plans.

“For example, if someone is planning a trip from Delhi to Lucknow, the app will showcase three primary routes—via Yamuna Expressway, Ghaziabad-Aligarh-Kanpur, and Moradabad-Bareilly-Sitapur. The app will calculate and clearly indicate which of these has the lowest toll cost,” Singh explained.

This is especially significant for long-distance travelers, logistics companies, and daily commuters who often find themselves paying high tolls unknowingly. With this feature, route planning will now become smarter, transparent, and economical.

FASTag Annual Pass: A Game-Changer for Regular Highway Users

Adding to the user-friendly initiatives, NHAI has also introduced an Annual FASTag Pass, offering 200 toll-free trips on national highways. Priced at ₹3,000, this pass is valid for one full year and is being seen as a cost-effective solution for frequent highway users.

The FASTag Annual Pass is set to be officially implemented on August 15, 2025. Once a user exhausts the 200 toll-free trips, they can recharge and repurchase the pass again. However, it’s important to note that the pass will only work on NHAI-managed toll plazas and will not be valid on those managed by state governments or private operators.

How to Apply for the FASTag Annual Pass?

Applying for the annual pass is simple and can be done in two ways—either through the official NHAI website or via the Rajmarg Yatra app. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the NHAI portal (https://nhai.gov.in) or open the Rajmarg Yatra app on your smartphone.
  2. Enter vehicle details and verify the active FASTag linked to your vehicle’s registration number.
  3. Make a one-time payment of ₹3,000.
  4. Upon verification and payment confirmation, the annual FASTag pass will be issued and activated.

This is an ideal solution for truckers, cab drivers, and families who frequently travel for business or personal purposes. With rising toll charges, this prepaid system can significantly reduce yearly toll expenses.

A Shift Towards Smart and Sustainable Highways

Both initiatives—the toll indicator feature and the annual FASTag pass—underline NHAI’s larger vision for smart transportation infrastructure in India. These developments are expected to enhance travel efficiency, boost digital transparency, and improve user experience on national highways.

As India’s road network continues to expand rapidly, such digital tools will not only support better route planning but also make the lives of highway users smoother and more affordable.

So, the next time you plan a road trip or a business haul, don’t forget to open the Rajmarg Yatra app—your new highway companion that ensures you pay less and travel smarter.

The National Highways Authority of India is making meaningful strides in improving the driving experience for citizens. Whether it’s choosing the most economical toll route or saving money with a FASTag annual pass, NHAI’s latest offerings are geared towards efficiency, affordability, and accessibility. Stay tuned for the rollout of the toll indicator feature and consider applying for the annual FASTag pass to maximize your savings on the road.
