Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended their Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 campaign on a high note, defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 11 runs in the final league match on Tuesday, March 11, at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Despite the loss, MI secured a playoff berth but missed the chance to directly qualify for the final.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, MI conceded 199 runs in 20 overs, taking only three wickets. RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana led from the front, scoring a brilliant 53 off 37 balls. Ellyse Perry added an unbeaten 49 off 38 balls, while Richa Ghosh (36 off 22 balls) and Georgia Wareham (31 not out off 10 balls) played quickfire innings to boost the total.
Chasing 200, MI fought valiantly but fell short, scoring 188/8 in their 20 overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the standout performer with a blistering 69 off 35 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. However, she lacked support from the other end. Sneh Rana starred with the ball for RCB, claiming three wickets, while Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth picked up two each.
With the league stage concluded, Delhi Capitals (DC) and MI both ended with five wins from eight matches, amassing 10 points each. DC topped the table with a superior net run rate (+0.396) and advanced directly to the final. MI, with a net run rate of +0.192, finished second and will now face Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator. Gujarat Giants secured third place with four wins and eight points, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time. RCB and UP Warriorz, both with six points, finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and were eliminated.
