Tesla Set to Open Second India Showroom in Delhi’s Aerocity on August 11: Model Y to Take Centre Stage

After its much-anticipated debut in Mumbai, Tesla is now all set to open its second showroom in India. The electric vehicle giant will unveil its new customer experience centre at Worldmark 3, Aerocity in New Delhi on August 11, 2025, marking a significant step forward in its India expansion plans.

The new showroom will function much like the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) outlet in Mumbai, which opened on July 15, providing an immersive brand experience to potential buyers and EV enthusiasts. Visitors can expect to get up-close with Tesla’s advanced vehicles, interact with the brand’s technology, and better understand the company’s electric mobility solutions.

Tesla’s India Expansion Shifts Gears

Tesla’s decision to open its second outlet in the capital’s Aerocity—one of the most premium commercial hubs in the country—signals its intent to make a strong foothold in India’s growing EV market. The new centre is expected to serve as both a product display area and a test-drive location, introducing the Model Y to Delhi NCR’s affluent urban population.

According to Tesla’s official website, Model Y SUV will be the flagship vehicle for India. This mid-size electric SUV, known for its sleek design, advanced driver-assist features, and strong performance, is one of the company’s global bestsellers.

Model Y Pricing in India

  • Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive: ₹60 lakh (approx. USD 69,765)
  • Model Y Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive: ₹68 lakh

These prices are significantly higher than the base price of the same model in other countries. In the United States, Model Y starts at USD 44,990; in China, it’s priced at 263,500 yuan; and in Germany, the SUV begins at 45,970 euros.

The primary reason behind the price difference lies in India’s hefty import duties. The Model Y will be available as a completely built unit (CBU) imported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, which serves as the production and export hub for several international markets.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

To prepare for the Indian rollout, Tesla has already imported six units of the Model Y SUV. These vehicles are currently being used for display and test drives at the Mumbai showroom and will likely be showcased at the new Delhi centre as well.

Additionally, Tesla has shipped Supercharger infrastructure and vehicle accessories worth nearly USD 1 million to India. This move hints at the brand’s plans to create a small but robust charging ecosystem even before scaling its vehicle availability.

What This Means for Indian EV Market

Tesla’s entry into India, a market historically dominated by two-wheelers and compact internal combustion vehicles, comes at a time when the government is pushing aggressive policies for electric vehicle adoption. Although the high pricing might restrict the Model Y’s appeal to premium buyers for now, the presence of Tesla showrooms could significantly boost consumer interest in EVs overall.

Moreover, with two showrooms within a month of each other, Tesla is sending a clear message—it’s serious about India. While the company has not yet confirmed any plans to set up a local manufacturing unit, speculation continues around future investment opportunities depending on policy developments, especially regarding import duty relaxation for EV manufacturers.

Looking Ahead

With showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi, Tesla has now established a presence in India’s two largest metropolitan markets. As it builds brand awareness and gauges consumer response, Tesla is likely to expand further—potentially to cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai in the near future.

For now, the upcoming Aerocity showroom promises to offer a firsthand look at Tesla’s technology and design philosophy to India’s capital city dwellers. And for thousands of Indian EV enthusiasts, that alone is reason enough to be excited.
