Hathras, Uttar Pradesh – A shocking incident of alleged rape in Hathras has ignited community outrage, leading to vandalism and heightened security measures. Aman Khan, 19, has been arrested by Uttar Pradesh police for the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl on Saturday night. The incident was followed by an angry mob vandalizing a local mosque, escalating tensions in the area.
Khan has a history of similar offenses. In December 2018, he was sent to a juvenile rehabilitation center for attempting to rape a five-year-old girl. After serving four years, he was released and had been working at a local Dhaba. Reports indicate Khan attended a madrasa in Hathras for two years, and allegedly claimed that a maulvi (religious cleric) influenced him to commit the crime.
Police reports state that the young girl was lured to a secluded area from a local market while she was with other children. The suspect then allegedly sexually assaulted her. Villagers intervened, rescuing the girl and apprehending the suspect. The victim is currently hospitalized in Aligarh in serious condition. Allegedly, Khan also attempted to drown her.
In response to the unrest, police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed to maintain order and protect the mosque, which was damaged by the mob. Local authorities have repaired the mosque and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents.
“Adequate police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the village as well as the mosque to ensure that no untoward incident takes place,” stated Hathras SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha. The investigation is ongoing.
