The Russo Brothers have teased that Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 will not only conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Multiverse Saga but also serve as a launchpad for Phase 7 and beyond. In an interview with Brazilian outlet Omelete, Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that the upcoming Avengers films are being treated as “a beginning story” rather than just a conclusion.
“A New Beginning” for the MCU
Joe Russo explained the significance of this shift, stating, “The greatest thing that ever happened is we got to, you know, get immersed in a 20-movie arc and see an ending to that arc. What’s compelling about these two new Avengers movies is they’re a beginning. It’s a new beginning. We told an ending story [with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame], and now we’re going to tell a beginning story.”
This signals a major narrative shift for Marvel Studios, suggesting that Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 could set the stage for new heroes, conflicts, and storylines that will define the next chapter of the MCU.
Secret Wars Inspiration and Potential TV Crossovers
In an exclusive interview earlier in March, the Russos revealed that they are drawing inspiration from Marvel’s Secret Wars comic book series for the upcoming Avengers films. They hinted that heroes from Disney+ Marvel shows could make appearances in Doomsday and/or Secret Wars, further expanding the crossover potential within the MCU.
Filming Timeline and Potential Leaks
Principal photography for Avengers 5 is rumored to begin in April 2025. With the films currently slated for release in May 2026 and May 2027, Marvel Studios will face a challenge in keeping plot details under wraps. If leaks start surfacing, fans might get a glimpse of the storyline and character lineup earlier than expected.
A New Chapter for Marvel Fans
With the Russos at the helm, expectations are sky-high for Avengers 5 and Avengers 6. Their promise of a fresh beginning could mean the introduction of new characters, unexpected alliances, and possibly the rise of a new threat that will define the future of the MCU.
