CBI Submits Closure Report in Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the high-profile death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, marking a significant development nearly four years after his untimely demise.

Rajput was found hanging at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020, sparking nationwide shock and speculation. The Mumbai Police’s initial investigation pointed to suicide, citing the absence of any forced entry and no suicide note at the scene. Preliminary findings suggested depression could have played a role in his tragic death.

However, the case took a dramatic turn when Sushant’s family lodged an FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetment to suicide, theft, cheating, and wrongful confinement. The ensuing jurisdictional conflict between the Bihar Police and Mumbai Police led to the Supreme Court intervening. On August 19, 2020, the apex court directed the CBI to take over the investigation.

Forensic experts at AIIMS later ruled out foul play, dismissing allegations of poisoning or strangulation. The CBI’s closure report, submitted to a special court in Mumbai on Saturday, aligns with these findings. The court will now decide whether to accept the report or direct further investigation.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s death ignited a media frenzy and intense public debate, shedding light on mental health and the pressures of the entertainment industry. The CBI’s latest move may bring some closure to the prolonged investigation, though the final word rests with the judiciary.
