The political landscape of Bihar is heating up as key national leaders intensify their campaigns ahead of the 2025 Assembly Elections. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to visit Bihar once again on April 7, marking his third visit to the state in the past four months.
During his upcoming visit, Rahul Gandhi will participate in the ‘Constitution Protection Conference’ to be held at the Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna. The conference will also commemorate the historic Salt Satyagraha Movement, reflecting the Congress Party’s intent to evoke legacy movements for social justice and rights. This announcement was made by Congress in-charge secretary Sushil Kumar Pasi during a press conference at Sadaqat Ashram, Patna, on Friday.
Rahul Gandhi to Walk with Kanhaiya Kumar in ‘Naukri Do Yatra’
Adding more weight to the visit, Rahul Gandhi is expected to join Kanhaiya Kumar, NSUI’s national in-charge and former JNU student leader, in the ongoing ‘Palaayan Roko, Naukri Do Yatra’ (Stop Migration, Give Jobs Yatra). This padyatra (foot march) aims to address one of Bihar’s most pressing issues — mass migration due to unemployment. The Congress leadership believes that Rahul Gandhi’s participation will give the campaign a significant boost and connect it with youth and working-class voters.
Sources also revealed that after attending the conference, Rahul Gandhi will hold a press conference in Patna to elaborate on the Congress’s vision for Bihar and respond to current political developments.
Heavyweight Leaders Eye Bihar Ahead of 2025 Elections
Rahul Gandhi’s visit is part of a series of high-profile political events in Bihar. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit on March 29, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address rallies during his visit on April 24. The visits from national leaders indicate the strategic importance of Bihar in the upcoming elections.
Rahul Gandhi has been actively engaging with Bihar’s political scene since the beginning of 2025. His previous visits on January 18 and February 5 involved meetings with party workers and district-level leaders, signaling Congress’s determination to revive its grassroots network in the state.
Congress Eyes Independence from RJD in Bihar
The Congress Party, which has traditionally relied on Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for political footing in Bihar, is now aiming for independent growth. Recently, the party undertook significant organizational changes, including appointing new state in-charges and a fresh state president.
Congress State President Rajesh Kumar announced that a state-wide campaign will be launched to encourage people to hoist the Congress flag at their homes and vehicles to spread the party’s presence. Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party Leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan reaffirmed the party’s support for the Waqf Movement, which is fighting for the protection of Waqf properties.
Tensions between RJD and Congress have also surfaced in recent weeks. Notably, Congress leaders skipped RJD’s recent Iftar party, fueling speculation about a potential shift in alliance dynamics. Moreover, during an internal meeting, former state president Akhilesh Prasad Singh openly admitted that RJD holds more strength than Congress in the state. However, Krishna Allavaru, a close aide of Rahul Gandhi and Bihar’s Congress in-charge, clarified that the party will no longer play the role of a “B-team” to any regional party and will strengthen itself at the booth level.
Rahul Gandhi’s Strategic Bihar Visits
Rahul Gandhi’s frequent visits to Bihar in 2025 signal the Congress’s intent to directly engage with voters without heavily relying on traditional allies. The upcoming ‘Naukri Do Yatra’ with Kanhaiya Kumar is seen as a move to mobilize youth and unemployed sections, who are expected to play a decisive role in the elections.
Rahul Gandhi is also banking on his image as a leader who listens to grassroots concerns. By joining a padyatra focusing on employment and migration issues, he aims to position the Congress as a party concerned with Bihar’s real problems.
With Assembly elections around the corner, Bihar is witnessing a flurry of political activities. All eyes will be on how Rahul Gandhi’s visit and the participation in the ‘Naukri Do Yatra’ will impact the political mood of the state.
