Karni Sena’s Protest in Agra: A Cry for Dignity and History

The historic city of Agra witnessed a significant political and emotional upheaval on April 12, 2025, as the Karni Sena staged a massive “Rakt Swabhiman Sammelan” in Garhi Rami. The protest was in reaction to Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman’s controversial statement on legendary Rajput warrior Rana Sanga.

This wasn’t just a political protest—it was a show of wounded pride, collective emotion, and cultural identity by the Rajput community. With saffron turbans tied tightly and chants echoing through the air, the gathering reflected not only anger but also deep-rooted reverence for historical icons.

A 5 PM Ultimatum That Shook Agra

Karni Sena leader Raj Shekhawat issued a strong message through the event’s resolution, giving the government until 5 PM to respond positively to their demands. “Till 5 PM, it’s the government’s time. After that, our time begins,” Shekhawat warned emotionally, hinting at a possible march to Ramji Lal Suman’s residence if the administration fails to act.

The statement added pressure to an already tense atmosphere, drawing attention from across political and media circles.

The Demands That Stirred the Fire

The Rajput organizations under the Karni Sena umbrella have presented six primary demands:

  1. Immediate termination of Ramji Lal Suman’s parliamentary membership and legal action against him.

  2. Withdrawal of all FIRs lodged against protesting Rajput youths.

  3. Bharat Ratna to be awarded to Rana Sanga.

  4. Naming the under-construction Noida International Airport after Rana Sanga.

  5. Inclusion of Rana Sanga’s legacy in educational curricula across the country.

  6. A stringent law to prevent historical distortions in academic and public narratives.

These demands highlight a broader cultural and historical concern—the desire for justice and honor, not just for an individual but for an entire community’s heritage.

A City Under Watch: Police Deployment at an Unprecedented Scale

Agra turned into a fortress on Saturday. Fearing escalation, security forces deployed included:

  • 9 companies of PAC

  • 2 companies of RRF

  • 4 DCPs, 3 ADCPs, 12 ACPs

  • Over 300 sub-inspectors, 2500 constables

  • Multiple heavy police vehicles and drones for aerial surveillance

The protest venue was heavily guarded, while Ramji Lal Suman’s residence received heightened security.

Veer Pratap Singh: “Every Patriot is Angry Today”

Addressing the gathering, Kshatriya leader Veer Pratap Singh said, “This is not just a Rajput concern. Every true patriot feels the pain of disrespecting Rana Sanga.” The stage welcomed several injured youths from the March 26 protest, drawing emotional cheers from the crowd. Community members tied saffron turbans in solidarity—a symbol of unity and pride.

The Other Side: Ramji Lal Suman Stays Defiant

Amidst the uproar, SP MP Ramji Lal Suman remained firm. “I have no fear. The administration has guaranteed my safety,” he said while interacting with his supporters. On being asked about the proposed peace march, Suman stated, “Permission is the administration’s concern. My safety is their responsibility, and they are in constant contact.”

A Sensitive Political Moment

This episode in Agra underscores the deep emotional and cultural ties communities have with historical figures. For many Rajputs, Rana Sanga is not just a name—he’s a symbol of honor and resistance. Any perceived insult reverberates deeply, triggering responses rooted in centuries of pride.
