Thunderstorm Alert for Delhi: IMD Predicts Rain, Strong Winds Till April 23, No Heatwave Expected

Delhi Weather Forecast: Delhi and surrounding NCR regions are likely to experience mild showers and gusty winds over the next few days, as per the latest weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been issued for the next 18 hours, with the national capital expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by light rain and winds gusting up to 50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph.

This short burst of stormy weather is not expected to last long, but strong winds will continue to blow across Delhi-NCR until April 23. After this period, the wind intensity is likely to subside, and daytime temperatures are expected to rise steadily, indicating the gradual onset of warmer days.

April 20 Weather Forecast: Cloudy Skies and Breezy Conditions

For April 20, IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with wind speeds ranging between 10 to 20 kmph. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 37°C to 39°C, while the minimum temperature will remain between 25°C to 27°C.

Rising Temperatures Expected from April 21 to April 24

As the weather system weakens, Delhiites will witness a gradual increase in temperatures during the following days:

  • April 21 to 24:
    • Maximum temperature: 38°C to 40°C
    • Minimum temperature: 24°C to 26°C

Despite the rising mercury, heatwave conditions are unlikely, offering some relief to residents amid the approaching summer.

April 21 & 22: Windy Days Ahead

According to IMD, April 21 will see partly cloudy skies with winds blowing at 15 to 25 kmph, and in some instances, the wind speed might touch 35 kmph.

On April 22, skies will clear up over Delhi, but the winds will remain strong, with gusts between 20 to 30 kmph. In some pockets, wind speeds may reach up to 40 kmph, adding a hint of coolness to otherwise dry conditions.

April 23–25: Dry and Warm Days Ahead

By April 23, the wind speeds will continue at 20 to 30 kmph, but the weather will start shifting towards hotter conditions, with more sunshine and lesser cloud cover. From April 25, Delhi’s maximum temperature is projected to hit 39°C to 41°C, while the minimum may linger between 25°C and 27°C.

Though the capital will experience summer-like warmth during the day, no heatwave is predicted throughout the week.

NCR Weather to Mirror Delhi Conditions

The IMD has also noted that Delhi NCR regions like Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad will experience similar weather patterns. Winds, light showers, and a gradual rise in temperatures will dominate the weather outlook across the region.

Despite the dry and sunny days expected towards the end of the week, the absence of heatwave conditions will come as a welcome respite for residents preparing for the peak summer ahead.

Bottom Line

Delhi is in for a mixed weather pattern over the next few days, with a pleasant blend of light rain, strong breezes, and manageable temperatures. While the winds may cause minor inconvenience, they also act as a natural coolant, delaying the full-blown summer heat. With no heatwave on the horizon, the coming week offers a relatively comfortable weather window for the capital and its neighbouring cities.
