Eid-ul-Adha 2025 Bank Holiday: As Muslims across India prepare to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha 2025 (Bakrid), many citizens are wondering about the banking schedule during this important festival. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that bank holidays will vary depending on the state, with some regions observing closures on Friday, June 6, and a broader closure expected on Saturday, June 7.
Here’s everything you need to know about Bakrid bank holidays, where banks will remain open or closed, and what services remain available during the holiday.
Banks Closed on June 6, 2025: Limited Closures
According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will be closed only in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, June 6, in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
All other banks across the rest of the country—including metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru—will remain operational on June 6.
Banks Closed on June 7, 2025: Widespread Closures
The following day, Saturday, June 7, banks will observe closures in most Indian states, except for:
- Ahmedabad
- Gangtok
- Itanagar
- Kochi
- Thiruvananthapuram
This means banks in all other parts of the country will remain closed on June 7, in alignment with regional observances of Eid-ul-Adha.
Eid-ul-Adha 2025: A Day of Devotion and Sacrifice
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is among the holiest Islamic festivals and is being celebrated in India on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The day commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to Allah’s will. As a reward for his faith, Allah replaced his son with a ram, which is now symbolically sacrificed by Muslims worldwide during the festival.
Beyond the ritual of animal sacrifice, the day is also about faith, humility, spiritual renewal, and the importance of helping those in need, as meat from the sacrifice is distributed among the poor and underprivileged.
What Banking Services Are Available During the Holiday?
Though physical branches will remain closed in several areas, digital banking services will continue uninterrupted. Here’s what customers can still do during the holiday:
- ATM withdrawals and deposits
- Mobile banking
- Internet banking
- UPI and online transfers
However, customers should note that cheque clearances, promissory note transactions, and over-the-counter banking operations will not be possible on days when the bank is closed.
June 2025: List of Bank Holidays Declared by RBI
The RBI has marked the following days as official bank holidays for the month of June 2025:
- June 6 (Eid-ul-Adha): Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram only
- June 7 (Eid-ul-Adha): Holiday in most other states
- June 11: Raja Sankranti (Odisha)
- June 27: Kharchi Puja (Tripura)
- June 30: Remna Ni (Mizoram)
Additionally, banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month as per standard practice.
If you have urgent bank-related tasks, plan accordingly—June 6 is a partial holiday, but June 7 will see more widespread closures due to Eid celebrations. While digital banking continues to offer convenience, branch-related work will have to wait until the next working day.
