Air India Flight AI 379 Makes Emergency Landing: In a tense and dramatic mid-air episode, Air India flight AI 379 en route from Phuket, Thailand to Delhi, India was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday, June 13, 2025, following a bomb threat received onboard. According to reports from Reuters, airport officials in Phuket confirmed that the pilot of the Boeing aircraft requested an emergency landing shortly after departure due to the onboard security threat. The aircraft, which took off at approximately 9:30 AM local time (02:30 GMT), made a wide loop above the Andaman Sea before safely returning to Phuket International Airport.
Upon landing, emergency procedures were swiftly activated. “All 156 passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft in line with standard emergency protocols,” said an official from Airports of Thailand (AOT). Bomb disposal units and security personnel immediately boarded the plane for a thorough search.
Thankfully, initial investigations did not uncover any explosives. AOT officials stated that the search was completed without any suspicious findings and authorities later confirmed that no bomb was found on the aircraft. However, the nature and source of the threat remain undisclosed.
Flight tracking platform Flightradar24 captured the unusual flight path of AI 379, showing the aircraft circling before landing back at the Thai island. Despite the alarming situation, there were no injuries reported among passengers or crew members.
Air India, in a brief statement, acknowledged the incident, confirming the safety of all individuals onboard and stating that the matter is under further investigation by Thai authorities in coordination with Indian aviation officials.
This incident comes at a time when heightened global geopolitical tensions have made aviation security a top priority. While false alarms and hoaxes are not uncommon, airlines continue to treat all threats with the utmost seriousness to ensure passenger safety.
As of now, the passengers are reported to be safe and are being assisted with onward travel arrangements. The Indian Embassy in Thailand is also involved in facilitating the needs of the Indian nationals on board.
