Andhra Pradesh Sets Two Guinness World Records on International Yoga Day 2025: Over 3 Lakh Unite for Peace in Visakhapatnam

In a spectacular celebration of health, harmony, and heritage, Andhra Pradesh etched its name into the history books by setting not one but two Guinness World Records during the 11th International Day of Yoga. Held in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, the event witnessed an unprecedented turnout of 302,087 participants—the largest-ever gathering for a yoga session at a single location.

The event, organized under the leadership of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, saw people from all walks of life converge at RK Beach and nearby grounds in the early hours of Saturday, some arriving as early as 2 AM. The enthusiasm was palpable as the masses performed asanas in unison, sending out a powerful message of peace, resilience, and unity through Yoga.

“A Festival of Wellness”: CM Naidu Hails Massive Turnout

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a detailed review of the International Yoga Day festivities held across Andhra Pradesh, placing special emphasis on the historic Visakhapatnam event. Praising the flawless coordination and massive turnout, Naidu described the event as a “festival of wellness” and lauded the dedication of ministers, MLAs, volunteers, and state officials.

“This is not just a record; it is a revolution in public health awareness. Andhra Pradesh has shown the world how Yoga can bring people together—peacefully and purposefully,” Naidu said in an official statement.

He also praised the use of a QR code-based tracking system, a pioneering initiative that allowed organizers to maintain accurate attendance and logistical records—setting a new benchmark for managing large-scale public events in India.

Another Record: 22,122 Tribal Students Perform Surya Namaskar

In another proud moment for the state, a second Guinness World Record was set as 22,122 tribal students performed the largest synchronized Surya Namaskar ever recorded. The event was organized simultaneously across multiple tribal schools and educational institutions, and was lauded for promoting inclusivity and wellness among underrepresented communities.

Officials said the performance wasn’t just about numbers—it was a cultural moment, showcasing how Yoga is reaching even the remotest corners of India and empowering the youth through traditional practices.

Prime Minister Modi: “Yoga is the Pause Humanity Needs”

Adding immense significance to the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself participated in the main event at Visakhapatnam, performing Yoga alongside thousands of attendees. Addressing the massive gathering, Modi emphasized Yoga’s growing relevance in today’s conflict-ridden world.

“Unfortunately, the world today is going through great tension. In many regions, unrest and instability are on the rise. In such a time, Yoga shows us the path to peace,” Modi said.

He described Yoga as “the pause button that humanity needs to breathe, balance, and become whole again.” The Prime Minister emphasized that Yoga is no longer just an ancient Indian practice, but a global movement for well-being and inner peace.

A Model for Other States

The International Yoga Day celebrations in Andhra Pradesh have now become a model for other states and nations to emulate. From flawless execution to technological innovation, and record-setting participation to inclusive outreach, the state demonstrated how a well-planned public health campaign can have both impact and inspiration.

Senior officials from Guinness World Records were present to certify the records, expressing admiration for the level of organization and public involvement.

Public Spirit on Display

The atmosphere throughout Visakhapatnam was one of pride, unity, and energy. Local residents, students, health workers, and spiritual leaders joined hands—literally and figuratively—to demonstrate Yoga’s power to connect individuals and societies.

Radhika, a 32-year-old homemaker from Guntur, who traveled overnight to join the session, shared:

“I’ve been practicing Yoga for years, but this was something else—doing it with lakhs of others under the open sky was magical.”

What’s Next?

Encouraged by the overwhelming response, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to establish Yoga wellness centers in every district, and to integrate Yoga more deeply into school curriculums. Officials are also considering making International Yoga Day an annual mega-event in Visakhapatnam, similar to how the Kumbh Mela is hosted in rotation.

With two Guinness World Records in its bag and national spotlight on its wellness efforts, Andhra Pradesh has certainly raised the bar for public health celebrations in India.
