Apple TV+ Now Available as Add-On Subscription on Amazon Prime Video in India

Apple has joined forces with Amazon to offer its video streaming service, Apple TV+, as an add-on subscription through Prime Video in India. This move aims to broaden Apple TV+’s audience in one of the world’s largest and most competitive streaming markets.

Starting April 2, Amazon Prime members in India can subscribe to Apple TV+ for a monthly fee of Rs 99, gaining access to its premium library of original content. Apple first launched this feature on Prime Video in the U.S. in October 2024, later expanding it to countries including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and several European and Latin American markets.

Expanding Apple TV+’s Reach

Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. “Viewers have been loving the ability to subscribe to Apple TV+ on Prime Video, and we’re pleased to now launch this offering in India. We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to audiences around the world.”

Apple has been actively increasing the availability of Apple TV+ in India. In February 2024, it launched an Apple TV app for Android users, a significant step in making its services more accessible beyond Apple devices. Additionally, the company partnered with Airtel to bundle Apple TV+ and Apple Music with the telecom provider’s premium postpaid and WiFi plans.

Premium Content at an Affordable Price

Apple TV+ first debuted in India in November 2019, priced at Rs 99 per month. Now, Prime members in the country can easily access its original content through a seamless add-on subscription via Prime Video. The service features a mix of critically acclaimed TV shows and movies, including comedies like Ted Lasso and Shrinking, dramas such as Severance, The Morning Show, Slow Horses, and Disclaimer, as well as sci-fi thrillers like Silo. Popular films like Wolfs and The Gorge also form part of the content library.

Kelly Day, Vice President of International at Prime Video, highlighted the benefits of the partnership: “We’re delighted to continue rolling out Apple TV+ on Prime Video with the launch in India, bringing Prime Video customers an even greater selection of TV shows and films, all in one app experience.”

Amazon’s Super App Strategy in India

Apple TV+ is the latest addition to Prime Video India’s growing collection of add-on subscription services, which already includes Lionsgate Play, Discovery+, BBC Player, MGM+, Sony Pictures – Stream, Anime Times, Crunchyroll, Animax+GEM, CN Rewind, FanCode, Channel K, Chaupal, Hoichoi, and Manorama Max.

Amazon is strategically positioning Prime Video as a comprehensive entertainment platform. Gaurav Bhasin, Head of Marketplace (Add-on Subscriptions and Movie Rentals) at Prime Video India, emphasized this goal: “Over the years, we’ve built Prime Video India as a first-stop entertainment destination, offering premium programming including Indian and international Originals, movies, and series. We are certain that Prime members in India will enjoy the easy access to Apple Originals with a simple add-on subscription, along with all the features of Prime Video, like streamlined content discovery, unified watchlists, and centralized billing.”

Competition Heats Up in India’s Streaming Market

Amazon’s latest move comes amid growing competition in India’s video streaming industry. The company recently strengthened its foothold by merging its ad-supported platforms—Amazon miniTV and MX Player—into Amazon MX Player.

Meanwhile, JioStar, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and Disney, has emerged as a major player after merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar to form JioHotstar. In March 2025, JioHotstar surpassed 100 million subscribers in India, making it a formidable competitor.

Other key players in India’s streaming market include Netflix, ZEE5, and Sony LIV, all vying for a share of the country’s expanding digital entertainment audience.

With Apple TV+ now available on Prime Video, Indian viewers can experience world-class storytelling at an affordable price, further intensifying the battle among global and local streaming giants.
