Major Smack Bust: Bihar Police Seize 1.5 Crore Drug Shipment Linked to Nepal

In a decisive action against cross-border drug trafficking, Bihar Police intercepted a massive consignment of smack worth approximately ₹1.5 crore in the international market. The operation took place in East Champaran district near the Nakardei police station, marking a  breakthrough in the fight against organized narcotics smuggling.

According to  Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat, the bust was conducted after police received a tip-off about a drug consignment being smuggled into Bihar from Nepal. Acting swiftly, a specialized police team carried out the raid and seized over seven kilograms of smack. Reports suggest that the consignment was intended for distribution across multiple districts in Bihar, sparking concerns over the growing influence of drug networks in the region.

Rise in Drug Trafficking Post Alcohol Prohibition

Authorities have noted an alarming increase in drug smuggling activities in Bihar following the state’s enforcement of total alcohol prohibition in 2016. With liquor no longer legally accessible, traffickers have shifted focus towards narcotics like smack, which are easier to transport and conceal. The porous India-Nepal border has long been exploited by drug cartels to smuggle contraband into Bihar, making it a hotspot for illicit activities.

SP Swarn Prabhat highlighted that the operation revealed the sophisticated network used by traffickers to smuggle drugs across the border. “We received credible intelligence about the shipment and immediately set up a team to intercept the consignment. This seizure is a major success in our continued efforts to curb the drug trade and protect our communities from the menace of narcotics,” he stated.

Noor Mohammad: Key Player in Cross-Border Drug Syndicate

Investigations have linked the intercepted consignment to notorious drug mafia associate Noor Mohammad. Police believe he is a key player in the network that orchestrates smuggling operations through Nepal into Bihar. The authorities have identified four traffickers involved in this particular consignment. While the smugglers managed to escape during the raid, law enforcement agencies have launched a full-scale manhunt to track them down.

“We are conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend the culprits. Their arrest will provide deeper insights into the larger trafficking network and help us dismantle these operations,” said SP Prabhat.

Community Concerns and Call for Stronger Border Security

Local residents have expressed concern over the rising cases of narcotics trafficking and its impact on the younger generation. Community leaders fear that increased drug availability could lead to a surge in addiction rates and associated social issues. Activists have called for stricter border surveillance and a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies to tackle the growing menace.

The ongoing investigation has brought renewed attention to the India-Nepal border’s role as a drug trafficking route. The ease of crossing the border and the lack of stringent checks make it an ideal passage for smugglers. Authorities are now exploring measures to tighten security, enhance cross-border cooperation, and deploy advanced surveillance techniques to prevent such incidents.

Police Intensifying Crackdown on Narcotics

Bihar Police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics. In recent months, law enforcement has increased border patrols and carried out multiple raids to curb the influx of illegal substances.

This seizure is a testament to our relentless pursuit of criminals involved in the drug trade. We are determined to dismantle these networks and prevent further infiltration of drugs into our society,” said SP Prabhat.

The recent bust not only uncovered a sophisticated smuggling network but also served as a stark reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in combating drug-related crimes. Authorities are working closely with central agencies and neighboring states to track cross-border smuggling routes and strengthen surveillance mechanisms.
