Bihar Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert for 10 Districts, Gopalganj Sizzles at 39.2°C Despite Widespread Showers

Patna, Bihar — Monsoon showers have finally made a strong comeback in Bihar, drenching several districts since early Friday morning. The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued heavy rain alerts for 10 districts, while other parts of the state continue to witness sporadic but persistent rainfall. However, despite the wet weather, temperatures remain high across most regions.

Heavy Rainfall Alert for 10 Districts

According to the Met department, Begusarai, Samastipur, Aurangabad, Khagaria, Kaimur, Rohtas, Gaya, Nawada, Banka, and Jamui are under heavy rainfall alert for Friday. Some of these districts, especially Gaya and Aurangabad, have already recorded substantial rain over the past 24 hours.

Orange and yellow alerts were issued in phases for different areas. From 1:26 a.m. to 4:26 a.m., districts like Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad were placed under an orange alert, signaling the potential for intense rainfall and local disruptions.

Later, between 4:44 a.m. and 7:44 a.m., a yellow alert was issued for Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Nawada, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Banka, Bhagalpur, Munger, Begusarai, Purnia, and Katihar. Meanwhile, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj were also placed under yellow alert from 4:53 a.m. to 7:53 a.m..

Rainfall Begins, But Heat Persists

Despite the showers, Bihar hasn’t seen a major drop in daytime temperatures. Gaya topped the rainfall chart on Thursday with 85.4 mm, followed by Jehanabad (66.2 mm), Aurangabad (52.2 mm), and Danrua in Patna (50.4 mm). Other notable rainfalls included:

  • Rohtas – 46.8 mm
  • Fatuha (Patna) – 42.4 mm
  • Banka – 39.8 mm
  • Daniyawan (Patna) – 35.4 mm
  • Nawada – 35 mm
  • Arwal – 28.4 mm
  • East Champaran – 27 mm
  • Buxar – 24.7 mm
  • Vaishali – 23 mm
  • Siwan – 14.8 mm

Yet, temperatures across the state remained high, with Patna recording 37°C, and Gopalganj becoming the hottest place in Bihar at a scorching 39.2°C.

Kishanganj Sees Unusual Heat

Interestingly, Kishanganj, which is typically among Bihar’s cooler districts, reported an unusually high maximum temperature of 37.01°C, raising concerns about changing local weather patterns.

The average maximum temperature across the state hovered between 34°C and 35°C, offering little relief even amid monsoon activity.

Intermittent Showers Continue

Patna and surrounding areas are experiencing intermittent rainfall, coupled with persistent cloud cover. Weather experts predict that showers will continue throughout the day in scattered patterns. While these rains are crucial for agriculture, the combination of high humidity and elevated temperatures is making the weather feel muggy and uncomfortable for residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged residents in the rain-alert zones to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas and regions prone to waterlogging. Authorities are on alert to manage potential urban flooding and disruption to transport services.

Bihar is finally witnessing much-needed rainfall, but the relief is partial as temperatures remain stubbornly high. With heavy rain alerts issued across major districts, the coming days will test the state’s resilience against the twin challenges of monsoon downpours and lingering heat.
