Brilliant Berrington-McMullen Show Powers Scotland to Crushing 145-Run Win Over Netherlands in CWC League 2

Utrecht, May 16, 2025: Scotland National Cricket Team delivered a dominant all-round performance to crush the Netherlands National Cricket Team by 145 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) League 2 match held at Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd. The emphatic win was fueled by match-defining performances from Richie Berrington and Brandon McMullen, with the latter shining as the undisputed Player of the Match for his scintillating century and four-wicket haul.

Batting first after losing the toss, Scotland piled on a mammoth 380/9 in their 50 overs—their highest total in the League 2 cycle. Captain Richie Berrington led from the front, smashing a commanding 105 off 86 balls, while Brandon McMullen dazzled with 101 off 88 deliveries. The pair laid a solid foundation after an explosive start provided by George Munsey, who hammered 80 off just 56 balls.

Despite a few late breakthroughs from the Dutch bowling unit, including Kyle Klein (3/60) and Paul van Meekeren (3/89), the damage had already been done. Scotland’s batting display was aggressive, calculated, and relentless—leaving Netherlands facing a daunting chase.

In reply, the Netherlands faltered under scoreboard pressure, folding for 235 in 42.1 overs. Bas de Leede offered resistance with a fighting 74 off 67, but lacked adequate support from the other end. Openers failed to fire, and the middle order crumbled against a disciplined Scottish bowling attack.

Brandon McMullen continued his magical day with the ball, picking up 4/55 in his full quota of 10 overs, showing tremendous control and variation. Bradley Currie chipped in with 3/49, while Jack Jarvis cleaned up the tail with 2/34.

The win not only gave Scotland a massive net run rate boost but also reaffirmed their position as a serious contender in the CWC League 2 standings. For Netherlands, the result is a wake-up call as they struggle to find rhythm ahead of key fixtures.

With both bat and ball, McMullen’s all-round brilliance stood out—a century and four-wicket haul in a single ODI is a rare feat, and he executed it with style and composure.
