Lahore, April 17, 2025: In a closely-fought contest at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, the West Indies Women edged past Bangladesh Women by 3 wickets with 24 balls to spare in the 11th ODI of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025. Powered by Chinelle Henry’s unbeaten 51-run knock and Aaliyah Alleyne’s all-round brilliance, the Caribbean side chased down the 228-run target in 46 overs.
Bangladesh Women, who won the toss and opted to bat first, posted a competitive total of 227/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Sharmin Akhter anchored the innings with a solid 67 off 79 balls, supported by Fargana Hoque’s patient 42. Nahida Akter chipped in with a crucial 25 in the lower order to take the total past the 220-mark.
However, it was West Indies pacer Aaliyah Alleyne who kept the Bangladesh batting line-up in check. She claimed 4 wickets for just 39 runs in her 9 overs and was later named Player of the Match for her impactful performance. Spinner Hayley Matthews also played a key role, taking 2/42, while Afy Fletcher maintained pressure from the other end with 2/43 in her full quota.
In response, West Indies had a steady start with contributions coming from several top-order batters. Skipper Hayley Matthews added a brisk 33 off 45 balls, and veteran Stafanie Taylor looked composed during her 36-run stay. However, it was Chinelle Henry who stole the show with a match-winning 51* off just 48 deliveries, anchoring the innings till the end.
Despite a few hiccups in the middle order, West Indies kept their cool, reaching 228/7 in 46 overs. Marufa Akter was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, picking 2/38 in 9 overs. Ritu Moni and Fahima Khatun picked up one wicket each, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Caribbean march.

This win further boosts West Indies’ qualification hopes as the tournament nears its decisive stages. On the other hand, Bangladesh Women will now need to regroup quickly if they wish to stay in contention for a World Cup spot.
