Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad: CSK Collapse for 154 as Harshal Patel Shines with 4-Wicket Haul

In an intense IPL 2025 encounter, Chennai Super Kings struggled to put up a competitive total, getting bowled out for 154 runs in 19.5 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. A clinical bowling display, led by Harshal Patel’s four-wicket haul, dismantled CSK’s batting order despite a fighting knock from Ravindra Jadeja.

Early Jolt and Top-Order Struggles

CSK’s innings got off to the worst possible start as opener Shaik Rasheed departed on the very first delivery, caught by Abhishek Sharma off Mohammed Shami. Ayush Mhatre and Sam Curran tried to rebuild, but neither could convert their starts. Mhatre fell for 9 off 10 balls, while Curran’s 21 off 17 ended at 39-2 in the 5th over.

Jadeja’s Lone Resistance

Amid the early setbacks, Ravindra Jadeja stepped up with a gritty and aggressive 42 off 25 balls. He timed his innings well, rotating strike smartly and hitting the occasional boundary. Jadeja anchored the innings through the middle overs before being bowled by Kamindu Mendis in the 10th over, leaving CSK at 74-4.

Middle-Order Meltdown

Dewald Brevis provided a brief spark with a quickfire 12 off just 2 balls but was caught in the deep off Harshal Patel. Shivam Dube (22 off 21) and Deepak Hooda (6 off 10) failed to lift the scoring rate. The lower-order crumbled under pressure, with MS Dhoni (2), Anshul Kamboj (2), and Noor Ahmad all falling cheaply.

Harshal Patel Leads the Attack

Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers for SRH, finishing with impressive figures of 4/28. He dismissed key batters including Brevis, Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad, breaking CSK’s backbone in the death overs. Captain Pat Cummins (2/21) and Jaydev Unadkat (2/21) provided crucial support, while Shami and Kamindu picked one wicket each.

Score Summary – Chennai Super Kings: 154 all out (19.5 overs)

  • Ravindra Jadeja – 42 (25)
  • Shaik Rasheed – 30 (19)
  • Harshal Patel – 4/28 (4 overs)
  • Pat Cummins – 2/21 (4 overs)
