Google Unveils $15 Billion AI Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, Poised to Generate ₹10,000 Crore Revenue for Andhra Pradesh

In a landmark move, Google has announced the development of its first gigawatt-scale hyperscale AI data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of approximately $15 billion over five years (2026-2030). Union Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, highlighted that the project is expected to generate around ₹10,000 crore in revenue and create 5,000–6,000 direct jobs along with 20,000–30,000 indirect jobs, significantly boosting the state’s economy and digital infrastructure.

Describing the initiative as a milestone in Swarandhra Pradesh’s progress and self-reliance journey, the Minister praised the collaborative efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh in securing this investment. The upcoming AI hub will integrate cutting-edge AI infrastructure, supported by a dedicated subsea cable network and clean energy solutions, positioning Visakhapatnam as a global digital and AI hub.

Key to this initiative is a joint venture between Google and Adani Enterprises’ AdaniConneX, aimed at building India’s largest AI data centre campus alongside green energy infrastructure. The facility will leverage purpose-built AI data centre infrastructure to meet the rising demand for AI workloads across India, powering products like Google Search, YouTube, and Workspace while fostering innovation among enterprises and startups.

The project emphasizes sustainability, with investments planned for renewable energy generation, transmission lines, and innovative energy storage solutions to enhance Andhra Pradesh’s electricity grid resilience and capacity. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and other dignitaries including Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the event unveiling this transformative project.

This multi-faceted investment aligns with India’s Digital India and India AI Mission, aiming to democratize technology, accelerate AI innovation, and secure India’s position as a global technology leader.
