Hong Kong Women Edge Past Nepal Women in a Thrilling Encounter at Uganda Women’s T20I Quadrangular Series

Entebbe, Uganda – March 10, 2025: The Hong Kong Women’s cricket team secured a narrow 2-run victory against Nepal Women in a nail-biting contest at the Uganda Women’s T20I Quadrangular Series. The low-scoring thriller at Entebbe Cricket Oval saw disciplined bowling performances from both sides, with Hong Kong managing to defend their modest total of 100/7 in 20 overs.

Hong Kong Women’s Innings: A Steady but Challenging Start

Winning the toss, Nepal Women opted to bowl first, hoping to restrict Hong Kong to a low total. Hong Kong’s innings started with a cautious approach as openers Natasha Miles and Mariko Hill built a slow but steady foundation. Miles played a patient knock of 35 runs off 42 balls, anchoring the innings. Mariko Hill contributed 21 off 26 deliveries before falling to Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack.

The Nepalese bowlers put up a commendable effort, led by Ishwori Bist (2/15 in 4 overs) and Indu Barma (2/15 in 4 overs), who kept the scoring rate in check. Despite their efforts, Hong Kong managed to post a competitive total of 100/7 in their 20 overs.

Nepal Women Fall Short in a Close Chase

Chasing 101 for victory, Nepal Women struggled to get off to a flying start as Hong Kong’s bowlers kept a tight grip on the scoring rate. Indu Barma emerged as the top scorer for Nepal with a well-fought 32 off 33 balls, while Puja Mahato contributed 19 runs from 28 balls. However, the lack of momentum in the middle overs hurt Nepal’s chances, leaving them with too much to do in the final overs.

Hong Kong’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Mariko Hill (2/21 in 4 overs) and Mei Wai Siu (1/12 in 4 overs), held their nerves under pressure. Captain Kary Chan also chipped in with 1/17 in her four-over spell. Despite a late push, Nepal Women could only manage 98/7 at the end of 20 overs, falling just 2 runs short of victory.

Mariko Hill Named Player of the Match

For her all-round performance—scoring 21 runs and taking two crucial wickets—Mariko Hill was adjudged the Player of the Match. Her contributions with both bat and ball proved instrumental in Hong Kong’s victory.
