ICAI Postpones Remaining CA Exams Amid India-Pakistan Tensions Following ‘Operation Sindoor’

New Delhi – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has officially postponed the remaining examinations of the Chartered Accountants Final, Intermediate, and Post Qualification Course [International Taxation – Assessment Test (INTT AT)] that were scheduled to be held from May 9 to May 14, 2025. This urgent decision comes in light of escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan following a major cross-border operation.

In a revised notification dated January 13, 2025, the ICAI stated, “Considering the current tense and unsafe environment in the country, the remaining examinations scheduled in May 2025 have been postponed.”

The institute added that revised dates for these exams will be announced later. Candidates have been advised to keep a close watch on the official website – www.icai.org – for all updates and to ignore any rumors circulating on unofficial platforms.

Why the sudden tension?
The decision follows the Indian Army’s major offensive – Operation Sindoor – carried out on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was in retaliation for the gruesome Pahalgam massacre on April 22, where several innocent civilians lost their lives.

Following the Indian military strikes, Pakistan responded with unprovoked mortar and heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control (LoC). The border districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed intense shelling, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people so far.

Drone and missile threats intercepted
Late Thursday night, India’s Ministry of Defence revealed that Pakistan attempted to target military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using drones and missile strikes. However, these attacks were successfully intercepted and neutralized by Indian forces, preventing major damage or casualties.

A safety-first approach for students
In view of these extraordinary circumstances, the ICAI emphasized that the decision to postpone the exams is aimed solely at ensuring the safety and well-being of students across the country.

The institute has urged all candidates to remain calm, continue with their preparations, and rely only on verified information from official sources.

The ICAI’s move to postpone CA exams amid ongoing military escalations underscores the gravity of the current geopolitical situation. For thousands of students, this may be a moment of uncertainty, but also one where their safety remains the highest priority.
