IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Karnataka: Heavy Rain and Hailstorms Expected in Bengaluru and 25 Other Districts

Bengaluru, March 31, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for over 25 districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in the coming days. Strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h are also expected. The alert warns residents of possible disruptions due to severe weather conditions and advises necessary precautions.

The districts under the yellow alert include Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Mysuru, Tumkur, Shivamogga, Ramanagara, Mandya, Kolar, Kodagu, Hassan, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Vijayanagar, Vijayapura, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi. These regions are expected to witness intense weather activity, including heavy showers and hailstorms, especially on April 2 and 3.

According to the IMD, cloudy conditions will prevail across Karnataka from April 1 to 3, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, and coastal districts will likely experience moderate to heavy rainfall, while North Interior Karnataka will receive scattered showers. On April 2 and 3, hailstorms are expected in Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka, with isolated hailstorms predicted in South Interior Karnataka on April 3. Widespread rainfall is likely across most parts of the state on April 4.

Despite the expected downpour in many areas, some districts, including Bidar, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir, will continue to experience dry weather, with only moderate rainfall anticipated. However, rain has already been recorded in Dharwad and Koppal, signaling the onset of the changing weather pattern.

Authorities have advised residents to stay prepared for potential flooding, waterlogging, and transportation disruptions. Farmers are urged to take precautions to protect their crops from hailstorm damage, while commuters are advised to exercise caution due to possible reduced visibility and slippery roads. The IMD is closely monitoring the situation, and officials are on high alert to respond to emergencies.

As the weather conditions intensify, residents are encouraged to stay updated through official IMD bulletins and follow safety guidelines. The government has also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains and take necessary steps to protect life and property.
