IPL 2025: Marcus Stoinis Blitz Powers PBKS to 206/8 Against DC After Toss Drama in Jaipur

Jaipur, May 24 – In a high-stakes IPL 2025 Match 66 at the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) posted a formidable 206/8 in their 20 overs after being put to bat by Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Shreyas Iyer. A blazing knock from Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and crucial cameos throughout the innings ensured PBKS made the most of a good batting track in Jaipur.

Shreyas Iyer, who has been in terrific touch, returned to lead PBKS from the front but it was Stoinis’ explosive 44* off just 16 deliveries that stole the limelight. His whirlwind innings, laced with towering sixes and well-placed boundaries, took the momentum away from Delhi Capitals during the death overs.

PBKS Innings Overview: Fireworks and Fumbles

After being inserted to bat, PBKS had a wobbly start, losing opener Priyansh Arya early for 6, caught behind off Mustafizur Rahman. Josh Inglis, however, counter-attacked in style, smashing 32 off just 12 balls before falling to spinner Vipraj Nigam, who was impressive in his four-over spell.

Prabhsimran Singh chipped in with a useful 28 (18), but it was the middle order where PBKS gained their footing. Nehal Wadhera (53 off 34) anchored the innings with patience and flair, crafting a crucial half-century that steadied the ship after the early jolts.

Shashank Singh (11 off 10) and Shreyas Iyer (16 off 16) kept the scoreboard ticking before falling in quick succession. It was Marcus Stoinis’ late blitz that provided the final thrust. He hit at a phenomenal strike rate of 275.00, taking the bowlers to the cleaners in the final overs.

PBKS also benefited from a couple of extras — 8 in total — including two no-balls and six wides that added to DC’s frustrations.

DC’s Bowling Report:

Delhi Capitals had moments of control but failed to contain PBKS in the slog overs. Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, using his variations to great effect and dismissing key batters including Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh.

Kuldeep Yadav also struck twice, removing both the PBKS captain Iyer and Omarzai, while Vipraj Nigam showcased his spin skills with a tight spell, accounting for the crucial wicket of Inglis.

  • Mustafizur Rahman: 4-0-33-3 (ER: 8.25)
  • Kuldeep Yadav: 4-0-39-2 (ER: 9.75)
  • Vipraj Nigam: 4-0-47-2 (ER: 11.75)
  • Mukesh Kumar: 4-0-49-0 (ER: 12.25)

What’s Next?

With the target set at 207, Delhi Capitals will require a commanding performance from their top order to chase down the total on what appears to be a true batting surface. All eyes will be on Shreyas Iyer’s tactics as captain and whether the likes of Tristan Stubbs, Sameer Rizvi, and Faf du Plessis can deliver under pressure.

The playoff race is heating up and a win here is vital for both teams. Stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling second innings under the lights in Jaipur.
