Delhi, May 20 – Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a dominant all-round performance to outclass Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets with 17 balls to spare in Match 62 of IPL 2025, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing a stiff target of 188, RR’s top order fired in unison, led by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive 57 off 33 balls and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blazing 36 from 19 deliveries, sealing a comfortable win and boosting their playoff prospects.
CSK Post 187/8: Mhatre and Brevis Impress
After being put in to bat, CSK managed a competitive 187/8 in 20 overs, thanks to aggressive cameos by Ayush Mhatre (43 off 20), Dewald Brevis (42 off 25), and a steady knock by Shivam Dube (39 off 32). However, the Royals’ bowling attack, spearheaded by Akash Madhwal (3/29) and Yudhvir Singh (3/47), kept pegging CSK back just as partnerships started to bloom.
Despite a few late boundaries from MS Dhoni (16 off 17) and Anshul Kamboj (5 off 3), CSK couldn’t breach the 200-run mark.
RR’s Run Chase: Power, Precision, and Poise
In reply, Rajasthan Royals came out with clear intent. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the foundation with a rapid 36 off 19 balls, smashing seven boundaries before being dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. Sanju Samson, calm and composed, added 41 from 31 deliveries, anchoring the innings during the middle phase.
However, it was young Vaibhav Suryavanshi who stole the show with his breathtaking 57 off just 33 balls, peppered with boundaries and sixes, taking the CSK bowlers to the cleaners. His fearless approach dismantled the pressure, and his partnership with Samson ensured RR never lost control of the chase.
Even after Samson’s dismissal, Royals had more than enough firepower to close out the game. Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer provided the finishing touches, with Hetmyer smashing the winning runs in the 18th over.
CSK’s Bowling Fails to Defend Despite Ashwin’s Effort
While Ashwin picked up 2 wickets for 41 runs and Anshul Kamboj bowled economically with 1/21, the rest of the CSK bowling unit struggled with line and length. Noor Ahmad was expensive, leaking 42 runs in his 3 overs without much threat to the RR batters.
CSK’s bowlers couldn’t build pressure after the powerplay, and the absence of breakthroughs in the middle overs proved decisive in their defeat.
