Israel Resumes Gaza Offensive: Over 400 Killed, Mass Protests Erupt In Tel Aviv

Israel has resumed its military offensive on Gaza, leading to the deaths of over 400 Palestinians, including newborns, children, and women. The strikes, launched at dawn when most civilians were asleep, have intensified tensions in the region. Meanwhile, mass protests have erupted in Israel, with thousands taking to the streets to criticize Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the conflict and his broader political strategy.

Fresh Strikes and Ground Invasion

A day after resuming its military operations, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a ground invasion into Gaza, targeting the Netzarim corridor, which divides the north and south Gaza Strip. The IDF issued evacuation warnings for civilians in the “combat zone” and reiterated demands for Hamas to release hostages.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, delivered a stern message to Gaza’s residents, urging them to return hostages and eliminate Hamas leadership. “Take the advice of the president of the United States. Return the hostages and remove Hamas, and other options will open up for you — including the possibility of leaving for other places in the world for those who want to,” Katz stated.

Rising Death Toll in Gaza

According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 436 Palestinians have been killed since the offensive began, including 183 children and 94 women. Over 678 people have been injured due to the ongoing strikes. The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen as medical facilities struggle to cope with the rising casualties.

Protests Against Netanyahu’s Government

In Israel, approximately 40,000 people gathered in Tel Aviv’s Habima Square and nearby streets on Tuesday night to protest Netanyahu’s policies. The demonstrations were sparked by reports of government interference with the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security service) and Netanyahu’s alleged ties with Qatar.

The protest was the largest in recent months and comes after the return of far-right politician Itamar Ben-Gvir to the cabinet. Protesters accused Netanyahu of ending the ceasefire to gain political leverage with far-right allies.

Far-right national security minister Ben-Gvir condemned the protests, calling them “anti-Israel.” “The protestors’ refusal to support Israel’s war on Gaza is unacceptable,” Ben-Gvir posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Ceasefire Violations and Political Tensions

Israel’s latest offensive follows the unilateral violation of a ceasefire agreement implemented on January 19, 2025. The truce, which ended over 15 months of fighting, had offered a brief period of calm in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. However, the latest developments have shattered hopes for a long-term resolution.

As tensions continue to rise, the global community remains divided over the conflict. The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with both humanitarian and political consequences unfolding rapidly.
