Mahavatar Narsimha Set for Netflix Premiere on September 19 After Historic Box Office Run

After roaring its way into the record books, Ashwin Kumar’s animated mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha is now ready to stream on Netflix. The film, which became the highest-grossing animated film in India, surpassing even Disney and Marvel titles, will premiere on the platform on September 19 at 12:30 PM.

From Theatres to OTT: A Wider Reach

For those who missed catching the film in cinemas, the Netflix release brings an opportunity to experience the spectacle at home. On Thursday, Netflix India’s official X account shared the film’s poster with the caption: “The roar of this lion can topple a kingdom 🦁💥 Watch Mahavatar Narsimha, out 19 September, 12:30 PM, on Netflix.”

The announcement has already created buzz among fans eager to revisit the mythological saga or watch it for the first time.

About the Film

Released in theatres earlier this year, Mahavatar Narsimha stunned trade experts by collecting over ₹300 crore worldwide, a rare feat for an animated movie. Directed by Ashwin Kumar and produced by Kleem Productions and Hombale Films, the film narrates the timeless tale of Prahlad and the emergence of Lord Vishnu’s fierce Narsimha avatar, who destroys tyranny and restores dharma.

More than just a standalone film, it marks the beginning of the ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe (MCU), inspired by the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. Upcoming instalments include Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and Mahavatar Kalki (2035–2037).

Director’s Vision

Speaking to Hindustan Times earlier, director Ashwin Kumar highlighted the importance of bringing India’s cultural heritage to the big screen.
“I believe there has been a vacuum of our ethnic and cultural stories in mainstream cinema. These tales deserve to be told on a grand scale. It’s our responsibility as creators to revive them, as they are not just stories but echoes of our ancestors, carrying virtues that must be passed on to future generations.”

A Cultural Milestone

With its stunning animation, gripping narrative, and strong box office run, Mahavatar Narsimha has set a new benchmark for Indian animation. Its arrival on Netflix will now ensure that the roar of Narsimha reaches households across the world, taking India’s mythological storytelling to a global audience.
