On March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to launch the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, a pivotal initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections of the capital. This scheme was a key promise in the BJP’s manifesto during the recent Delhi assembly elections.
Eligibility Criteria:
The scheme targets women who meet the following conditions:
-
Age: Between 18 and 60 years.
-
Residency: Must be residents of Delhi.
-
Income: Annual family income should be less than ₹3 lakh.
-
Employment Status: Should not be government employees or recipients of financial aid from other government schemes.
Application Process:
To ensure a streamlined and transparent application process, the Delhi government is developing an online portal for registrations. The Information Technology department is also creating specialized software to verify applicants’ eligibility. Applicants will need to provide:
-
Aadhaar Card
-
Ration Card
-
Proof of Address
-
Registered Mobile Number
The portal will cross-verify details to ensure authenticity and prevent duplication.
Disbursement of Funds:
Eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹2,500 monthly, directly transferred to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This method ensures timely and transparent disbursement of funds, empowering women to manage their essential expenses more effectively.
Implementation Timeline:
The official launch is scheduled for March 8, 2025, during the Mahila Diwas event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Registrations are expected to commence on the same day. The government aims to expedite the verification process, with the first disbursements anticipated within one and a half months post-registration.
The Mahila Samriddhi Yojana aligns with similar initiatives in other BJP-ruled states, such as the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ in Madhya Pradesh and the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ in Maharashtra, reflecting a broader commitment to women’s empowerment across the nation.
Eligible women are encouraged to prepare the necessary documents and apply promptly once the portal is live to benefit from this empowering initiative.
