India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., has officially announced a sweeping reduction in ex-showroom prices across its lineup, reflecting the full benefit of the government’s GST rate cut effective September 22, 2025. This move comes after the government’s landmark GST rationalisation, which simplified tax slabs from four to primarily two—the 5% and 18% brackets—and introduced a 40% rate for luxury and bigger cars.
Small Cars See Biggest Savings
Maruti’s entry-level models have reaped the largest price cuts, making them more affordable than ever. The iconic Alto K10 now starts at ₹3,69,900, down by ₹1,07,600, while the compact S-Presso received the highest cut of ₹1,29,600, price-tagged at ₹3,49,900. Other popular small cars including Celerio, Wagon-R, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, and Baleno also saw reductions ranging from ₹71,300 to ₹94,100.
SUVs and Larger Models Also Benefit
The GST cut advantages extend to larger SUVs and premium models with slightly smaller savings, reflecting their classification under the new tax framework. The Brezza and Fronx SUVs received cuts of approximately ₹1,13,000, with the Grand Vitara’s price reduced by ₹1,07,000 to ₹10,76,500. These adjustments align with the government’s classification where small cars under 4 meters with specific engine capacities attract an 18% GST, while bigger cars fall under the 40% bracket.
Victoris SUV Launch Prices Inclusive of GST Cuts
Maruti Suzuki also announced that the prices of its newly launched Victoris compact SUV will include the GST benefits from September 22. The Victoris will range from ₹10,49,900 to ₹19,98,900 depending on variant, and will be available through the company’s Arena showrooms.
What This Means for Buyers
The timing of these price cuts ahead of the festive season is expected to boost demand in the passenger vehicle market. The reduced ownership cost improves affordability, especially for budget-conscious buyers looking to upgrade to personal mobility. Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava hailed the GST rationalization as a move that enhances the competitiveness of Indian products through efficiency and price reduction.
