Mumbai, April 17: Mumbai Indians (MI) returned to winning ways with a clinical four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Match 33 of IPL 2025. Chasing a competitive target of 163, MI crossed the finish line in 18.1 overs, thanks to key contributions from Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, MI’s bowlers restricted SRH to 162/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was his usual economical self, conceding just 21 runs in his four overs and claiming the vital wicket of Travis Head. Will Jacks also chipped in with two crucial wickets for 14 runs, applying the brakes on SRH’s middle overs.
SRH got off to a steady start with Travis Head (28 off 29) and Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) adding useful runs at the top. Heinrich Klaasen continued his consistent form with a fluent 37 off 28, but the middle-order lacked acceleration in the final overs. Despite wickets in hand, SRH failed to break the 170-mark as Mumbai’s bowlers kept the scoring in check.
In response, MI’s batting line-up looked composed under pressure. Will Jacks top-scored with a vital 36 off 26 balls, taking on SRH’s spinners in the middle overs. Ryan Rickelton’s 31 off 23 set the tone early in the innings, while Suryakumar Yadav added a quickfire 26 off 15 to maintain the momentum.
Though SRH captain Pat Cummins made a valiant effort with the ball, picking 3 for 26 in four overs, it wasn’t enough to derail Mumbai’s chase. Eshan Malinga contributed with 2/36, but MI’s depth in batting helped them sail through with 11 balls to spare.
The finishing touch came from the lower order, with Mumbai showing resilience and depth to wrap up their chase at 166/6 in 18.1 overs.
