NEET-UG 2025 Scam Unmasked: In a shocking development from Bihar, a major NEET-UG 2025 exam fraud has come to light, leading to the arrest of an MBBS doctor and his associate. The accused were allegedly running a high-stakes proxy racket that helped medical aspirants cheat their way into top colleges — all for a hefty fee.
The Bihar police nabbed Dr. Ranjeet Kumar, a government doctor posted at Begusarai Divisional Jail, along with his associate Rambabu Malik, a resident of Darbhanga. Their alleged crime? Replacing real NEET candidates with proxies equipped with forged admit cards — a practice that reportedly cost each aspirant between Rs 2.5 to 5 lakh.
According to officials, the duo facilitated impersonations across multiple exam centres, including those in Samastipur. The police launched an investigation after receiving intelligence about suspicious activity around exam centres on the evening of May 4, just hours after the national-level medical entrance test had concluded.
Late-Night Raid Exposes High-Tech Fraud
Around 10:30 PM on May 4, a car roaming near several exam centres raised alarms. By 10:55 PM, police intercepted the vehicle near Mohanpur bridge and detained the two men. Upon interrogation, authorities discovered three mobile phones, Rs 50,000 in cash, and a car filled with incriminating documents, including multiple NEET-UG 2025 admit cards, Aadhaar cards, photographs, and signatures of various candidates.
The sheer volume of data suggested a well-organized network aimed at helping underprepared students secure MBBS seats using fraudulent means.

The accused confessed to running a scheme that capitalized on the desperation of NEET aspirants. Candidates who lacked confidence were approached and offered proxy services, with imposters appearing on their behalf in exchange for large sums of money.
Possible Links to NEET-UG 2024 Mastermind
Police are now investigating whether the arrested individuals have any connection to Sanjeev Mukhiya, the alleged mastermind behind the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak. Mukhiya, who was arrested last month by Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU), is already facing charges of orchestrating one of the largest exam scams in recent history.
Authorities are currently analyzing the mobile data recovered from Dr. Kumar to determine how many proxy candidates were deployed during the 2025 exam and which centres were compromised.
“We’re leaving no stone unturned,” said Town Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Pandey, while speaking to The Indian Express. “We’re matching recovered admit cards with those who actually appeared for the exam. A special team has been set up to identify all possible victims and perpetrators.”
NEET Scams Continue to Haunt Aspirants
The NEET-UG exam, often dubbed the gateway to India’s medical profession, has frequently come under scrutiny due to fraud, impersonation, and paper leaks. Just a day before this bust, on May 3, police in Araria arrested SK Faiz for allegedly duping NEET aspirants by promising them the exam paper in advance in exchange for payment. Investigations revealed that Faiz had received money directly into his bank account from multiple students.
A Larger Systemic Problem
These back-to-back arrests raise serious concerns about the integrity of one of India’s most competitive exams. While millions of students study day and night to earn their place in medical colleges, a parallel black market appears to be exploiting both fear and ambition.
The EOU and SIT have emphasized that more arrests could follow as they delve deeper into the network. Meanwhile, educationists and parents are calling for stricter oversight, technological safeguards, and faster investigations to protect the dreams of deserving candidates.
As the NEET-UG 2025 results loom, the integrity of the exam hangs in the balance — and the system’s response to this scam will determine whether justice prevails or corruption finds another loophole.
