Network Planning Group Achieves Milestone with 5 Strategic Infrastructure Projects under PM GatiShakti

The Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti initiative marked a significant milestone by convening its 100th meeting on October 17, 2025, to review and approve five key infrastructure projects aimed at transforming India’s transport and logistics sectors. Chaired by Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary (Logistics), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the meeting focused on integrated multimodal infrastructure development and last-mile connectivity for enhanced economic growth.

Among the rail projects, the Ministry of Railways proposed quadrupling the 65-kilometer Hosapete-Ballari railway line in Karnataka, a crucial corridor supporting mining, steel, cement, and power industries that currently faces congestion. This expansion will significantly boost freight capacity and ease industrial transport bottlenecks. The second rail initiative involves doubling the 230.5-kilometer Gondia-Jabalpur line spanning Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to facilitate smoother freight and passenger movement across Central and Eastern India.

In highway development, two projects received the spotlight: the upgradation and widening of the 50.24-kilometer Mahwa-Mandawar section of NH-921 in Rajasthan, which enhances connectivity between Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, and Haryana; and the construction of a six-lane elevated road with service lanes along a 13.37-kilometer stretch from Anisabad to Deedarganj in Bihar, aimed at reducing urban congestion in Patna.

The metro expansion project approved for Jaipur Metro’s Phase 2 will establish a 42.8-kilometer North-South corridor comprising 36 stations. This route will connect vital economic and residential zones, including Sitapura Industrial Area and Vidhyadhar Nagar, and integrate seamlessly with existing lines to promote efficient urban transit.

This landmark meeting reflects the sustained momentum of the PM GatiShakti program, which continues to emphasize a “Whole of Government” approach to accelerate logistics efficiency, reduce transportation bottlenecks, and stimulate socio-economic development across India. With 434 projects worth ₹11.17 lakh crore identified and several cargo terminals commissioned, PM GatiShakti is poised to transform India’s infrastructure landscape profoundly.

This milestone not only marks progress in addressing current transport challenges but also sets the stage for future collaborative governance fostering integrated infrastructure growth that benefits industries and citizens alike
