Rawalpindi, April 19, 2025: Peshawar Zalmi delivered a dominating all-round performance to thrash Multan Sultans by a massive 120 runs in the 9th match of the Pakistan Super League 2025 (PSL 10) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday. This emphatic win marks one of the largest margins in PSL history, setting the tone for the season with explosive batting and ruthless bowling.
Zalmi’s Batting Blitz – 227/7 in 20 Overs
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Zalmi openers came out with a clear intent to dominate. Tom Kohler-Cadmore laid the foundation with a quickfire 52 off 30 balls, while Mohammad Haris added firepower at the top with 45 off just 21 balls. But the real fireworks came from Abdul Samad, who smashed 40 off just 14 balls, including four towering sixes.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the Zalmi batters kept the scoreboard ticking at an aggressive rate. Their innings was a blend of clean hitting and tactical acceleration, finishing with an imposing 227/7. For Multan, David Willey (2/36) and Michael Bracewell (2/37) were the only bowlers to show some resistance.
Multan Collapse – All Out for 107 in 15.5 Overs
Chasing a mammoth 228, Multan Sultans crumbled under pressure. Usman Khan offered some hope with a brisk 44 off 22, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to support him. Captain Mohammad Rizwan could manage only 15, while experienced batter Shai Hope was restricted to 20 runs off 20 balls.
Zalmi’s bowling unit was relentless. Young pacer Ali Raza stole the spotlight with sensational figures of 4/21 in his four overs, dismantling the Sultans’ middle-order. Arif Yaqoob also impressed with 3/20, while Mitchell Owen wrapped up the innings with two wickets in just five deliveries (2/2 in 0.5 overs).
Multan Sultans were bowled out for 107 in 15.5 overs, suffering one of their heaviest defeats in PSL history.
Abdul Samad Named Player of the Match
For his explosive 40-run knock off just 14 balls that turned the game in Zalmi’s favor, Abdul Samad was rightly named the Player of the Match. His cameo provided the final flourish that took Zalmi past the 220-mark and ultimately broke the spirit of the Sultans.
