Rajgir Roars with Rugby: Asia’s U-20 Sevens Championship Turns Bihar into Global Arena of Youth Power

Asia’s U-20 Sevens Championship 2025: In the heart of Bihar, history is being rewritten—not in dusty archives, but on green turf with rugby balls, war chants, and national pride. For the first time ever, Rajgir, the ancient city once home to emperors and philosophers, has transformed into a battlefield for Asia’s best young rugby talent.

From August 9 to 10, 2025, the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship is storming into the Rajgir International Sports Complex, with 192 athletes from 9 nations, all vying for glory. A total of 40 adrenaline-pumping matches are on the cards, making Rajgir the epicenter of youth sports in Asia.

A Continental Showdown: 9 Nations, 1 Dream

This isn’t just a tournament—it’s a high-voltage display of passion, pride, and potential.

Teams from China, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and others have arrived in full strength to showcase their future stars. With 32 elite coaches and 50 seasoned technical officials, this event is a testament to the rising standard of youth rugby in Asia.

And while the spotlight is continental, India is stealing hearts with a hometown twist.

Six Bihar Heroes in Team India

India is fielding both men’s and women’s teams, but what’s turning heads is that six players from Bihar have made it to the national squads—two boys and four girls—marking a groundbreaking moment for the state.

This is more than selection. It’s a symbol of change—a shift from being spectators to becoming contenders. For Bihar, this isn’t just participation. It’s transformation.

As Rahul Bose, President of Rugby India, puts it:

Rajgir Rolls Out the Red Carpet

The atmosphere in Rajgir is electric. Teams arrived in Patna earlier this week, welcomed with drums, smiles, and traditional Bihari hospitality. Special arrangements have been made for their comfort and safety, including tight security, world-class accommodations, and a revamped sports complex.

At the official press conference, Bihar’s Sports Minister Surendra Mehta and Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar expressed unwavering support for the event, stating that:

“This is more than sport—it’s a statement. Bihar is ready to lead.”
