In a highly one-sided encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 17, 2025, the South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team secured a commanding 10-wicket victory against Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team in the 18th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Sri Lanka elected to bat first but could only manage a modest total of 105 runs for 7 wickets in a rain-shortened 20-over innings.
Sri Lanka struggled throughout their batting innings, with Vishmi Gunarathne top-scoring with 34 runs, supported moderately by Nilakshi de Silva (18), Kavisha Dilhari (14), and captain Chamari Athapaththu (11). The Sri Lankan batters often fell cheaply, unable to build substantial partnerships. On the bowling front, South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba was the most effective, claiming 3 wickets for 30 runs in her 4 overs, while Masabata Klaas picked up 2 wickets.
Chasing a revised target of 106 runs, South Africa executed a flawless run chase, reaching the total without losing a wicket in just 14.5 overs. Laura Wolvaardt led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten 60 runs and was named Man of the Match for her composed innings. She received substantial support from Tazmin Brits, who remained unbeaten on 55 runs. The opening duo put on a commanding partnership that left no room for Sri Lanka’s bowlers to make a dent.
South Africa’s clinical performance in both batting and bowling sealed an emphatic 10-wicket win, further boosting their confidence in the tournament. Sri Lanka, despite valiant efforts from some players, will need to regroup and strengthen their lineup for upcoming matches.
