Tensions Flare Along LoC: Pakistan Army’s Ceasefire Violation in Poonch Sparks Strong Response from India

Poonch, April 2, 2025 – In yet another provocation along the Line of Control (LoC), the Pakistan Army intruded into Indian territory and violated the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The intrusion, which led to a mine blast in the Krishna Ghati sector on April 1, was followed by unprovoked firing from across the border, forcing the Indian Army to retaliate in a “controlled and calibrated manner.”

According to Indian Army spokesperson Lt. Colonel Suneel Bartwal, the situation has since been brought under control and is being closely monitored. “Indian troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner, ensuring that no further escalation occurred,” he stated. The Army reiterated the importance of maintaining the ceasefire agreement signed between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan in 2021, urging for peace along the LoC.

However, tensions remain high, especially with Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Jammu and Kashmir on April 7-8. Security forces are on high alert following an ongoing counter-terror operation in Kathua district, where militants have engaged in fierce gunfights with Indian security forces.

Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation: A Deliberate Act of Aggression?

The ceasefire violation by Pakistan raises serious concerns, given the timing and its potential impact on regional stability. The incident reportedly took place in the Nangi Tikti area of Krishna Ghati, a known flashpoint for past cross-border confrontations.

Sources indicate that a mine explosion was the first sign of an intrusion, suggesting that Pakistani troops may have entered Indian territory before the blast. “Both sides have their own perception of the LoC due to the lack of a clear demarcation. Someone must have stepped on a mine, leading to the explosion,” a military source explained.

While the Indian Army later issued a follow-up statement that did not explicitly mention the “intrusion,” it also did not deny it, leading to further speculation about Pakistan’s intentions.

Heightened Security in Jammu & Kashmir Ahead of Amit Shah’s Visit

The ceasefire violation comes at a time when security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are already engaged in an intense counter-terror operation in Kathua district. For the past 11 days, security personnel have been tracking a five-member militant group believed to have infiltrated from Pakistan via the international border.

On March 23, the first encounter between militants and security forces took place in the dense forests of Saniyal village. The heavily armed terrorists, taking advantage of the difficult terrain, managed to evade capture. The situation escalated on March 27, when the militants launched an ambush from a hilltop, killing four police personnel.

So far, two militants have been neutralized, but at least three others are still at large. Search operations continue in the forests of the Ramkote area, with reinforcements deployed to prevent any escape attempts.

Ceasefire Agreement Under Strain

The 2021 ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan had brought relative calm along the LoC after years of frequent border skirmishes. However, repeated provocations from the Pakistani side in recent months have tested the fragile truce.

While India remains committed to maintaining peace, security experts warn that such violations could undermine trust between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. “Every time Pakistan violates the ceasefire, it risks triggering a larger conflict. India’s measured response shows restraint, but continued aggression cannot go unanswered,” said a defense analyst.

With Amit Shah’s visit around the corner, security forces remain on high alert. Additional troops have been deployed to sensitive areas, and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring any suspicious activities.

The Indian Army’s swift response to Pakistan’s ceasefire violation in Poonch sends a clear message: any attempt to disrupt peace will be met with force. Meanwhile, the Kathua operation remains a top priority, with security personnel determined to eliminate the remaining terrorists.

As tensions persist, all eyes are on the Indian government’s next steps. Will there be diplomatic repercussions for Pakistan, or will this be handled strictly as a military matter? One thing is certain—India is prepared to defend its borders at all costs.
