In the 73rd and final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (2023–27) held on Tuesday, May 27, the United States of America (USA) put up an impressive total of 293/8 in their 50 overs after being sent in to bat by Oman at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.
After losing the toss, the USA showcased a collective batting effort, with their top and middle order laying a solid foundation for a competitive total. Openers Smit Patel and Shayan Jahangir set the tone early, scoring 41 and 37 runs respectively, helping the team get off to a steady start. Skipper Monank Patel chipped in with 26 runs, holding the innings together in the middle phase.
However, it was young batter Sai Teja Mukkamalla who stood out with a classy knock of 73 runs, anchoring the innings and pushing the USA towards a challenging score. In the middle order, Harmeet Singh added a crucial 33, while Sanjay Krishnamurthi provided the late innings fireworks, smashing a quick-fire 40 off just 27 balls.
Jasdeep Singh and Shadley van Schalkwyk also contributed in the death overs, helping the USA breach the 290-run mark. The team collectively added 10 extras to the scoreboard, rounding up a solid batting display.
For Oman, pacer Sufyan Mehmood was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 58 runs in his 9-over spell. Spinners Shakeel Ahmed and Aamir Kaleem supported well, bagging two wickets each, but the USA’s aggressive approach in the final overs made the difference.
Oman now faces a steep chase of 294 runs — a target that won’t be easy, especially under pressure in the final league fixture. With both teams aiming to finish strong on the points table, this contest carries added significance. A win here will provide momentum going into the next phase of international competition, especially with qualification stakes looming.
As things stand, the USA has done well to put the pressure squarely on Oman, who will now need a disciplined and aggressive batting effort to chase down the target. All eyes will be on their top order and how they respond to the scoreboard pressure.
