Opting to bat first, UP Warriorz got off to a blistering start, thanks to an aggressive opening stand between Grace Harris and Georgia Voll. The pair tore into the RCB bowlers during the powerplay, amassing 67 runs in just 36 balls, with both batters maintaining a strike rate above 175. However, disaster struck in the seventh over as Harris was run out following a mix-up between the two, an excellent piece of fielding by RCB captain Smriti Mandhana catching them off guard.
Despite the setback, Voll continued her rampage and was joined by Kiran Navgire, who turned the game into a one-sided affair with her breathtaking stroke play. Navgire smashed a quickfire 46 off just 16 balls, including five sixes, before being dismissed trying to clear the boundary. Voll, meanwhile, brought up her second consecutive fifty in a mere 31 balls, but was left agonizingly short of a historic century, remaining unbeaten on 99 at the close of the innings.
With a target of 226 to chase, RCB needed a strong start and got one with an explosive powerplay, scoring over 70 runs in the first six overs. However, their chase was marred by the regular fall of wickets. The in-form Richa Ghosh emerged as RCB’s main hope, playing a scintillating knock of 69 off 33 balls, including five sixes. Her efforts, alongside a solid partnership with Georgia Wareham, brought RCB back into the game.
Despite Ghosh’s valiant fight, her dismissal at deep midwicket ended RCB’s chances of a miraculous recovery. Sneh Rana’s explosive 26 off 6 balls raised a glimmer of hope, but UP Warriorz regrouped and bowled out RCB for 213, securing a crucial victory by 12 runs. This win kept UP Warriorz’s playoff aspirations alive while condemning RCB to a fifth consecutive defeat, ultimately ending their season.
The match was a thrilling display of batting fireworks, with Voll and Ghosh showcasing their exceptional talent. UP Warriorz’s remarkable batting depth and clinical bowling performance were the key factors in securing this hard-fought win .
