Moscow and Washington have yet to begin addressing the key challenges in their bilateral relationship, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday. While discussions have taken place, significant progress remains elusive.
In an interview with the press, Lavrov stated that while it is too early to draw conclusions from the statements made by the new U.S. administration, initial signals appear promising. However, he noted that concrete steps to resolve ongoing tensions have not yet been taken.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also confirmed on Monday that no formal talks between Russia and the United States are scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia this week.
Recent diplomatic engagements between the two nations include meetings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 18 and in Istanbul, Türkiye, on February 27. These discussions covered a range of issues, including bilateral relations and the ongoing Ukraine conflict. However, no major breakthroughs were reported from these meetings.

Tensions between Moscow and Washington have persisted over several geopolitical issues, including security concerns, economic sanctions, and differing positions on the Ukraine crisis. Observers suggest that despite some diplomatic engagements, both sides remain cautious about any potential resolution.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the international community is closely monitoring the developments in U.S.-Russia relations, hoping for a constructive dialogue that could lead to de-escalation and renewed cooperation.
