Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2025, Match 22: Priyansh Arya’s Thunderous Century Powers PBKS to 219/6 Against CSK in Chandigarh

Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings: Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium, Chandigarh  – In a thrilling 22nd match of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) posted a formidable total of 219/6 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), thanks to a record-breaking maiden century by young sensation Priyansh Arya, who smashed a breathtaking 103 runs off just 42 balls.

PBKS won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision paid rich dividends as the home side, despite early setbacks, capitalized on Arya’s fireworks and a late flourish by Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen to reach a commanding total.

Priyansh Arya Lights Up Mohali With His Maiden IPL Ton

The star of the show was undoubtedly 21-year-old Priyansh Arya, who announced himself on the grand stage with a maiden IPL century. Arya took just 42 deliveries to notch up 103 runs, peppered with 7 fours and 9 sixes, registering a mind-blowing strike rate of 245.24.

He dominated the powerplay, took on the spinners, and was particularly brutal against Pathirana and Noor Ahmad. Arya eventually fell in the 14th over, caught by Vijay Shankar off Noor Ahmad, but by then, the damage was done.

Middle-Order Collapse Followed by Late Surge

Punjab’s innings, however, wasn’t smooth sailing throughout. After losing Prabhsimran Singh (0) early, the side suffered a mini-collapse:

  • Shreyas Iyer (9) and Marcus Stoinis (4) fell cheaply, both to Khaleel Ahmed, while
  • Nehal Wadhera (9) and Glenn Maxwell (1) became victims of Ravichandran Ashwin.

At 83/5, PBKS looked in trouble. But Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen steadied the innings and then accelerated beautifully.

Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen Add Finishing Touch

After Arya’s dismissal, it was Shashank Singh (52 off 36)* and Marco Jansen (34 off 19)* who combined for an unbeaten stand to take PBKS well past the 200-run mark. The duo added 65 runs off just 38 balls, targeting the death overs with authority.

Shashank’s composed fifty came at a crucial time, ensuring PBKS didn’t lose momentum in the final phase. Jansen’s ability to clear the ropes made CSK pay heavily in the last few overs.

CSK Bowlers Under Fire

Chennai’s bowling lineup had a forgettable outing:

  • Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with 2/45 in his 4 overs, though he was expensive.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin also grabbed 2 wickets but went for 48 runs.
  • Matheesha Pathirana, expected to spearhead the attack in the death overs, conceded 52 runs in his full quota without any success.
  • Noor Ahmad picked up Arya’s crucial wicket but was also expensive.

The only bowler with a respectable economy was Ravindra Jadeja, who gave away just 18 runs in his 3 overs, but failed to strike.

Score Summary: PBKS – 219/6 in 20 Overs

Batting Highlights:

  • Priyansh Arya – 103 (42)
  • Shashank Singh – 52* (36)
  • Marco Jansen – 34* (19)

Fall of Wickets: 17/1, 32/2, 54/3, 81/4, 83/5, 154/6

Bowling Figures (CSK):

  • Khaleel Ahmed: 4-0-45-2
  • Ravichandran Ashwin: 4-0-48-2
  • Matheesha Pathirana: 4-0-52-0
  • Noor Ahmad: 3-0-32-1
  • Mukesh Choudhary: 2-0-21-1
  • Ravindra Jadeja: 3-0-18-0

Chasing 220 will be a massive challenge for CSK, especially against a confident PBKS bowling attack led by Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal. CSK’s hopes will rely heavily on Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, and the experience of MS Dhoni. With win probability tilting heavily in Punjab’s favor at 79%, CSK will need something extraordinary to pull this one back.
