Tension Erupts in Nagpur as Clashes Break Out Between Two Groups; CM Fadnavis Appeals for Peace

Tension flared up in Nagpur after clashes between two groups created a tense atmosphere in the city. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the people of Nagpur to maintain peace and cooperate with the police. The situation, which began with a minor altercation in the afternoon, escalated into a major conflict by the evening, leading to stone-pelting and police intervention.

Clashes Between Two Groups Create Chaos

The unrest began earlier in the day when some organizations staged a protest outside the District Collector’s office, raising various demands. During the protest, a minor disagreement broke out between two groups, which was initially controlled by the police.

However, tensions resurfaced around 7 to 7:30 PM near Shivaji Chowk when a large group gathered and started shouting slogans, expressing their displeasure over the afternoon protest. In response, the opposing group also began counter-sloganeering, leading to a heated confrontation.

Sensing the rising tension, the police immediately arrived at the scene and separated both groups. The protesters were pushed back toward Chitnis Park to prevent further escalation.

Stone-Pelting and Police Action

Despite the police’s quick action, the situation worsened when heavy stone-pelting began from the Bhalsarpura area near Chitnis Park. Large stones were hurled at the police, forcing them to take a defensive stance.

To control the situation, the police resorted to using tear gas shells and engaged in mild force to disperse the crowd. Several vehicles were damaged in the stone-pelting, and reports suggest that some cars were also set on fire.

CM Fadnavis Appeals for Calm

Following the outbreak of violence, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the public, urging them to remain calm and avoid believing in rumors. He emphasized that Nagpur has always been a peaceful city where people stand together in both joy and sorrow.

“We are in constant contact with the police administration. I urge all citizens to cooperate with the authorities and maintain peace. Nagpur has always been known for its harmony — do not fall prey to any rumors. Let’s work together to restore peace,” Fadnavis said.

State Home Minister Pankaj Bhoyar also echoed similar sentiments while speaking to ABP Majha, assuring that the situation was under control and that the police were working tirelessly to ensure peace in the city.

Current Situation Under Control

As per the latest reports, the police have managed to regain control over the situation. Heavy security has been deployed across the city, particularly in sensitive areas, to prevent any further incidents. No major injuries have been reported so far, but the damage to vehicles and public property is being assessed.

The police have urged citizens to avoid gathering in large numbers and to report any suspicious activity immediately. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent any further escalation.

The situation in Nagpur remains tense but under control as police continue to monitor developments closely. Authorities have assured that those responsible for the violence will face strict action.
