Weather Update Across India: Pleasant Skies in Delhi, Thunderstorms in East, and Heatwave Looming Over Rajasthan

Weather Update Across India: India’s weather landscape is showcasing a blend of spring charm and early summer warnings, as several states witness fluctuating temperatures, light showers, and powerful winds. From a refreshing weekend in Delhi-NCR to storm alerts in the East and a heatwave prediction in Rajasthan, here’s a region-wise breakdown of the latest weather updates issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi-NCR Enjoys Pleasant Weather After Light Showers

Following a spell of light rain and gusty winds on Friday, Delhi and surrounding areas experienced a significant drop in temperature, offering residents a much-needed respite from early summer heat. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35.2°C, nearly 0.9°C below normal, while the minimum temperature dropped to 19°C, which is 2°C below normal.

For Sunday, IMD forecasts that the maximum temperature could range between 36°C to 38°C, while the minimum may hover around 19°C to 21°C. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy across most parts of Delhi-NCR, and importantly, there’s no heatwave alert at least until April 15.

Heavy Rainfall Alert in Assam and Meghalaya

Moving eastward, Assam and Meghalaya are bracing for heavy rainfall on Sunday, as per the IMD’s prediction. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds at speeds of 50–60 km/h are also likely over Gangetic West Bengal, raising concerns about local disruptions.

Additionally, similar weather is expected across parts of Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and other northeastern regions, where rainfall mixed with strong winds may continue through the weekend.

Jharkhand to Remain Cool Until April 18

Jharkhand is likely to witness cooler-than-usual weather with chances of rainfall and thunderstorms until April 18. According to the IMD, lightning strikes and gusty winds are also anticipated, especially in central and southern districts. However, northwestern districts such as Palamu, Garhwa, Latehar, Chatra, Koderma, and Lohardaga may see relatively dry weather on Sunday.

Rain Brings Relief in Bihar Amidst Rising Summer Heat

Bihar’s weather, which had started leaning toward summer extremes, has taken a welcome turn due to western disturbances. Several areas, including Samastipur, Vaishali, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, and Khagaria, are expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall. These weather conditions are helping counter the recent surge in daytime temperatures.

Rajasthan on High Alert as Temperatures Soar

In stark contrast, Rajasthan is gearing up for a potential heatwave. While some regions reported light rainfall and cloud cover over the past 24 hours, IMD has forecast dry weather for the next four to five days.

Temperatures are expected to climb significantly, particularly in western parts of the state. Jaisalmer is projected to touch 44°C to 45°C by April 15, marking one of the highest temperature forecasts of the season so far.

Rain and Snow in Himachal Pradesh, Another Western Disturbance on the Way

In the hills, Himachal Pradesh witnessed rainfall in several districts, while light snowfall was reported in areas of Lahaul and Spiti. The IMD has also predicted that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region starting April 16, which could bring more rain on April 16 and 17 across different parts of the state.

Thunderstorm Alerts for Multiple States

The IMD has also issued lightning and strong wind alerts across several other Indian states:

  • Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka are expected to witness wind speeds between 30–40 km/h along with thunderstorms and lightning.
  • Additionally, parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience heatwave-like conditions on Sunday.

India’s weather continues to remain dynamic as multiple regions swing between spring showers and rising heat. While northern and eastern states enjoy brief spells of relief, western India gears up for a rise in mercury. Citizens are advised to stay updated with local weather forecasts and take necessary precautions against thunderstorms, lightning, and heatwaves.
